Save Energy & Keep Moisture & Animals Out Of Your Chimney With A New Damper Cap
We all want to save money where we can, but did you know you could be losing money right up your chimney? It’s true! Throat dampers — which are traditional dampers that sit down in the throat of the chimney — don’t provide an airtight seal, which means that even when yours is closed, conditioned air could be sneaking right past it.

Have you ever shivered walking past your fireplace in the winter because of all the cold air coming down through the chimney? Your throat damper can’t stop those downdrafts either, which means you’ll be cranking up the heat to stay warm in the winter and cranking up the AC to stay cool in the summer.
Why not kiss that energy waste and discomfort goodbye for good?
Here at SirVent Lexington, we’re proud to replace throat dampers with new top-mounted damper caps. These dampers are installed at the top of the flue and provide an airtight seal that keeps water, animals, birds, and downdrafts out and conditioned air in. Here’s a little bit about each type of damper cap we install and why our customers love them:
- Lock-Top Dampers — Lock-Top dampers are energy saving dampers that are made of stainless steel and silicone rubber gaskets. When opened, the stainless steel top pops up to allow smoke and byproducts to exit the chimney, and when closed, it seals to eliminate downdrafts, leaks, and pest entry. Easy to open, discreet, durable, and effective, these dampers make it easy for homeowners to save money on leak repairs and utilities.
- National Chimney’s Premier Damper Caps — National Chimney’s Premier damper caps are similar in appearance to Lock-Top dampers, except Premier damper caps are a little bit larger and feature brown, black, copper, or stainless steel mesh. Instead of popping up and closing like Lock-Top dampers, these dampers have an insulated lid that fits the flue and closes to seal out moisture and outside air. Whether opened or closed, the meshed cap is always there to protect your chimney against leaves, twigs, pests, and insects.
Whichever cap you end up choosing, you’ll be delighted when you see how much of a difference it makes for your chimney and your energy bills.
